8. Reparations To African Americans Have Already Been Paid Since the passage of the Civil Rights Acts and the advent of the Great Society in 1965, trillions of dollars in transfer payments have been made to African-Americans in the form of welfare benefits and racial preferences (in contracts, job placements and educational admissions) - all under the rationale of redressing historic racial grievances. It is said that reparations are necessary to achieve a healing between African-Americans and other Americans. If trillion dollar restitutions and a wholesale rewriting of American law (in order to accommodate racial preferences) for African-Americans is not enough to achieve a "healing," what will?
Reason 8 For Reparations
8. Reparations for American slavery are monies paid solely to make whole the decendents of the victims of slavery. The opportunity to pay the victims directly was purposely just not done. There is no way to to get them back from the dead. On the other hand, the government whose economy prospered from the exploitation and the theft of of our ancester's and their labor can be held accountable. The idea that welfare benefits paid to any person black or white is reparations for slavery is laughable, or that affirmative action, which is a benefit for white females and all minorities is some form of reparations for slavery is a mean and arrogant intellectual trick. The arguement that the government should keep the the money it stole and that the people, who continue to suffer because of that crime, should just get over it, does not make any sence. Thomas Paine arrived in America, November 30, 1774, and published in the Postscript to the Pennsylvania Journal and the Weekly Advertiser the following: "The Managers of that Trade themselves, and others, testify, that many of these African nations inhabit fertile countries, are industrious farmers, enjoy plenty, and lived quietly, adverse to war, before the Europeans debauched them with liquors, and bribing them against one another; and that these inoffensive people are brought into slavery, by stealing them... So much innocent blood have the Managers and Supporters of this inhuman Trade to answer for...
